~ Have the Voices of African people echoed? ~overview TICAD IV and G8 Summit~

 ■□ Until the year 2008, it was rare that Japanese media report on Africa. Especially, people living on African earth and their voices were hardly presented to Japanese audience and readers.

However this year, 2008, year of TICAD IV and G8 Summit held successively in Japan, Japanese people’s interest in Africa has grown: we can even defined 2008 as the “first year of Africa”. Due to the intensive approach by TCSF and the concerted effort of other Japanese and African NGOs, a good deal of African voices is reported through media.

TICAD IV and Toyako Summit have now ended, though we hope that media continue to report on Africa and contribute to the increase of interest in that continent by wider range of Japanese people.
